Chennai experienced scorching temperatures as the mercury soared to 40.8 degrees Celsius on Monday, making it the third highest recorded temperature among all areas in Tamil Nadu. The city residents, already eagerly awaiting the qualification of their home team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for the Indian Premier League playoffs, had to contend with the oppressive heat as well. Vellore claimed the top spot on the list with a sweltering 42.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Thiruthani at 41.0 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department predicted that the hot weather would persist for the next 48 hours.
